"Cyberpunk 2077" has intentions to release an expansion that highlights the prominent involvement of Idris Elba

During a recent interview, it was revealed that Gabe Amatangelo, the director of the upcoming "Phantom Liberty" expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, will also be directing a full sequel to the game. Amatangelo confirmed this information in an interview with Bloomberg (via PC Gamer), stating that after completing work on "Phantom Liberty," he will move on to directing the sequel, which currently doesn't have an official title.

In addition to his role in "Phantom Liberty," Amatangelo is currently the director of Cyberpunk 2077 and has been leading the game's development since 2021. He was involved in the development of the significant 1.5 update, which was a crucial turning point for the game following its troubled launch in 2020.

The sequel to Cyberpunk, developed by CD Projekt Red, was announced in October 2022 and is currently in development under the codename "Orion." While specific details about the sequel are limited, CD Projekt Red has hinted that it will further explore the potential of the dark futuristic universe of Cyberpunk.

A group strategy update also suggested that the Cyberpunk sequel will feature multiplayer elements, although precise details about the game have yet to be confirmed as the studio continues to work on "Phantom Liberty."

"Phantom Liberty," set to be released this year, will be the only expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 and will take players to a new zone in Night City called Dogtown, where they will embark on a mission to rescue the President of the New United States of America.

In "Phantom Liberty," Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as Johnny Silverhand, while Idris Elba will join the series to play a sleeper agent for the New United States.

Last week, CD Projekt Red confirmed that "Phantom Liberty" will launch on September 26 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The release date was announced alongside a new trailer unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 11, showcasing Idris Elba's character in action and explaining why the game's protagonist, V, is drawn into the rescue mission.
