The cumulative sales of the Metal Gear series are approaching the 60 million copies mark
Based on the most recent information provided by Konami, the cumulative sales of the renowned Metal Gear series exceeded 58.9 million copies as of April 2023. It has been confirmed that an extra 300,000 copies of the franchise were sold since December 2022. Surprisingly, the digital editions of Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 remain absent from online marketplaces, despite the studio's earlier commitment. These games were withdrawn from the platforms in November 2021.
Previously, the digital format of Metal Gear Solid 3 could be purchased for the Nintendo 3DS console. However, in March of this year, Nintendo closed its eShop platform for this console, rendering that option unavailable.
There are whispers circulating that Konami is presently engaged in the development of a remake for Metal Gear Solid 3. Interestingly, this remake may become an exclusive for the PlayStation gaming console. Details about the project may be revealed during the upcoming PlayStation Showcase event scheduled for May 24th.
