EA director: "Battlefield 2042 didn't live up to expectations"
It's not a secret for any of the gamers that Battlefield 2042 showed, to put it mildly, not the most successful start and, according to many fans, became the worst game in the series. The reasons for this were many, ranging from technical problems to unnecessarily empty and ill-conceived maps, along with changes that the community did not want to accept. The head of EA paid special attention to the latter fact in his quarterly report for investors.
Andrew Wilson, director of EA said the following:
Through our testing and preparation, we knew we were ready to put Battlefield 2042 in the hands of our fans. We launched the game with high stability, but as more users tested the full version of the game, it became clear that there were unforeseen performance issues that needed to be addressed.
Despite the outright failure of Battlefield 2042, such an outcome will have little effect on the financial condition of EA. Blake Jorgensen, who plays the role of CFO in the company, spoke about this:
Initially, the Battlefield franchise was projected to generate substantially less than 10% of net bookings this year and less than 5% next year. We are reviewing these numbers, but in any case, this will have a marginal impact on growth in FY 2023.
DICE previously announced the postponement of the start of the first season of Battlefield 2042 to the summer of 2022. The developers promised gamers to improve the title and fix technical issues before adding the battle pass to the game. Now DICE wants to focus on the appearance of voice chat in the title with the possibility of cross-platform communication. In their opinion, this is what the game lacks now. In addition, DICE wants to improve the shooting mechanics in order to make the gameplay feel good, as well as take the interaction of players with squads to a new level.
