XSET makes changes to the leadership team

North American esports organization XSET has announced a number of changes to its leadership team. As part of the restructuring, the organization's co-owner Erin Ashley Simon was named the new director of culture, while Steve Birkhold became chief operating officer.

In his previous role as Chief Marketing Officer, Birkhold helped build the fashion and merchandising department of XSET with Chief Creative Officer and co-founder Wil Eddins.

As the new CEO, Birkhold is expected to use his experience in leadership and organizational development to further improve the day-to-day functions and operations of XSET. Moreover, he will try to position the organization for further rapid scaling.

Marco Mereu, former COO of XSET, is still with the company, but in a different position. He will reportedly remain the majority owner and board member of the esports organization.

Greg Selko, co-founder and CEO of XSET: "During the early stages of the organization, we strive to build the best executive team possible for XSET. Steve and Erin were both integral to the early stages of the company's development and we know they will continue to do even more at key leadership positions to accelerate the next phases of XSET."

On the other hand, over the past year, Simon has helped XSET create and develop its diversity and inclusion initiatives. For example, she expanded the esports internship fund with the University of Kentucky partnership to help students who are interested in careers in esports and gaming.

Simon also spearheaded a partnership with Rise Above the Disorder for XSET to raise funds to provide free mental health services to those in need. In her new role as CCO, she will continue to lead all of XSET's diversity and inclusion initiatives, as well as the overall culture and community building around the brand.
