Unified expands its League of Legends programs
North American tournament and esports services company Unified has announced plans to expand its high school support programs to include League of Legends. As a result, the association will hold championships for high school students starting this summer.
Unified's League of Legends offerings kick off with a tournament open to all high schoolers in North America. The prize fund of the championship will be $500 in the form of gaming equipment.
Chris Harris, CEO of Unified: "National competition is great, but what we consider to be the heart of high school esports is the competition against local rivals and the opportunity for these students to play on stage. That's what creates lifetime memories for these students." We are very excited to be able to provide this starting this fall."
In recent years, Unified hosted the first university conference, Riot Games, which awarded $20,000 in scholarships. All this suggests that the association intends to further develop student esports.
Recall that in May, the company extended the existing agreement with Riot Games to operate the LCS Proving Grounds, the North American academy and the amateur League of Legends tournament. In addition, Unified announced a partnership with gaming peripheral brand HyperX.
