OpTic Gaming and Envy Gaming Announce Merger
North American esports organizations OpTic Gaming and Envy Gaming have announced a merger that will bring both organizations under a single brand in the future. As a result of the merger, the Texas franchise Call of Duty League Dallas Empire will be renamed OpTic Texas next year.
Hector Rodriquez, President of OpTic Gaming:“There is nothing I would like more than to have the freedom as a creator to create. This is a comfortable level of trust in Mike[Rufeil]and the investment group that he has assembled, which has been around for many years and which I know from personal experience. Finding people you trust and with whom you want to build is the most important thing for the future of OpTic. "
According to the press release, the merger will not only unite the two brands, but will also help expand the business. As part of the deal, Hector Rodriguez will become a shareholder in the new brand and will continue to operate OpTic Gaming. Envy Gaming will also continue to use their Dallas Fuel franchise in the Overwatch League, as well as their teams in VALORANT, Halo and Rocket League. At the same time, Dallas Empire will be disabled.
Mike Rufeil, CEO of Envy Gaming:"It's still somewhat surreal. We are strengthening the future of esports ten years from now with the decisions we make today. For us, this deal means we can reach our goals faster."
It's unclear how the two parties will collaborate in the future, especially given that both organizations manage teams across a range of disciplines and work with numerous content creators.
