Zonic Reveals Reasons for Contract Split with Team Vitality Post BLAST.tv Major
It seems like after winning the BLAST.tv Major tournament in May 2023, coach Danny "Zonic" Sørensen shared details about parting ways with Team Vitality in an exclusive interview with Duncan "Thorin" Shields.
Sørensen expressed his initial desire to extend his contract with Vitality. However, the offered salary was significantly lower—around 60-70% less than expected. While he was willing to accept a moderate decrease, such a substantial cut was unacceptable. Despite the organization's financial issues, he proposed reducing his salary by 20%, but this condition wasn't accepted.
The star coach, a five-time Major tournament winner, mentioned no ill feelings toward the team but found their offer unacceptable, especially considering previous salary cuts. These funds had allowed the organization to bring in other specialists.
Negotiations began tense and, according to Sørensen, somewhat disrespectful. Over time, Vitality suggested he explore other options, leading him to choose a new project—the Team Falcons.
Sørensen mentioned receiving several offers from different teams, including established and lesser-known ones. However, he was drawn to the opportunity presented by the Falcons project, where he was given the chance to "take the keys" and win at a Major, with the freedom to choose the methods for achieving success.
The third episode of "Reflections with Zonic" is available for viewing, and the mentioned segment starts at 41:14.
