Copenhagen Games 2023 organizers postpone tournament indefinitely
The organizers of SLAP.dk have postponed the Copenhagen Games 2023 indefinitely. The company expects to organize the championship later in 2023. The announcement of the event's postponement was made just three months before the tournament itself was due to start, and this is the third time in a row that the championship in Copenhagen has been cancelled.
We tried to launch Copenhagen Games in 2023 but unfortunately we have to give up now. There continues to be huge interest from players around the world for this event and the city of Copenhagen continues to provide financial support for the event.
But, unfortunately, it was not possible to find sufficient commercial support for the event. We simply could not find enough financial support from sponsors and participants.
The reason is a combination of the effects of the coronavirus, the current economic crisis and increased competition. We are a very small organization that has been keeping up with esports for many years, mainly because we have a very strong passion for organizing esports competitions. For now, this means that the Copenhagen Games 2023 will be postponed indefinitely and I hope we can find a financial basis to organize the tournament later in 2023.
Interestingly, the organizers also canceled scheduled competitions last year, citing similar reasons. However, in the past, the Copenhagen Games series was considered one of the most prestigious, as such teams as HellRaisers, Virtus.pro, Ninjas in Pajamas, SK Gaming, fnatic and MOUZ became the champions of the tournaments.
