Rumors: CS:GO will switch to Source 2 in the first quarter of 2023
According to developer Aquarius, Valve will transition CS:GO to the updated Source 2 engine in the first quarter of next year. In fairness, this is not the first and not the last forecast that talks about big changes in everyone's favorite game.
Here's something interesting to end the year on a high note. I have a source that confirms that CS:GO's transition to Source 2 is expected in the first quarter of 2023! I can also confirm that the CS:GO beta (AppID 710) has been hidden due to extensive testing, some of which we did this summer. Obviously, this is all just speculation, and with Valve, you can never know for sure.
Valve has never announced the transition of CS:GO to a new game engine. However, for years, insiders, developers, and other data miners have been publishing their rumors, fueling interest in an imminent update. For example, in July 2022, dataminers found Shoots, Italy, Inferno, Lake, Overpass, and Shortdust maps with the "S2" attribute in the game files. From this, they came to the conclusion that the developers are testing maps for Source 2.
However, given the number of past "insiders", new information should be treated with skepticism. Obviously, some work is being done to move to Source 2. However, you need to remember about the meager number of people involved in the work on CS:GO. Therefore, you should not harbor false hopes, although rumors are not born from scratch.
