FACEIT will replace ESEA's weekly Cash Cup tournaments in Latin America
The FACEIT tournament platform will now hold weekly Cash Cup championships in Latin America. The company will take over the responsibility for hosting tournaments for which the ESEA platform was previously responsible. The platform announced the creation of the FACEIT Cash Cup series in the region with a prize pool of R$2,600, which will replace the usual ESEA Cash Cup championships.
As part of our long-term commitment to the region, and also following our longstanding promise that we plan to bring new things to the region's ecosystem to help develop it and give better support to local contributors. Today we are ready to take the first step towards that promise.
The main news regarding the FACEIT Cash Cup is the fact that participation will be completely free. Recall that the ESEA platform took an entry fee from the participants in the form of a subscription. However, now any player can register for a new series of championships and take part.
The prize of R$2,600 will reportedly go exclusively to the winner. However, other winners will also receive FACEIT points.
If at least three teams from the top eight are represented in South America's ESL World Ranking at the FACEIT Cash Cup, the championship will scoring points for the corresponding ranking. This statement follows an updated scoring methodology for the ESL World Ranking, which just recently caused confusion in the distribution of invites to IEM Katowice 2023.
The first championship of the FACEIT Cash Cup series will take place tomorrow, December 23rd. The championships are also scheduled for all subsequent Fridays, namely December 30 and January 7.
