Call of Duty Movie Director Previously Shared Ambiguous Comments About Video Games

As we know, Call of Duty movie adaptation is indeed in development at Paramount Pictures, and recently it received a massive update—the release date, which is set for June 30, 2028. The film is still far away from the shooting process or casting, but we know it will be directed by Peter Berg, who is mostly known for such action titles as Hancock, Battleship, and Mile 22.

Call of Duty fans, though, have discovered some interesting information about him. Back in 2013, Berg spoke to Esquire, where he revealed some disturbing words about video games based on war conflicts. You can check out his words from the interview below:

“Pathetic. Pathetic. Keyboard courage. Can't stand it. The only people that I give a Call of Duty get-out-of-jail-free card to is the military. They're out there serving and they're bored and they want to entertain themselves? Okay, maybe. Kids? Uh-uh.”

When the interviewer asked whether Berg himself plays video games, he also replied:

“Some of them do. But I tell them I think it's pathetic. I think anyone that sits around playing video games for four hours... It's weak. Get out, do something.”

These are highly controversial statements from the director, who will be working on a future adaptation of a video game that, in one way or another, involves military conflict. Since the material was discovered and made headlines, Peter Berg has not yet commented on his remarks from 13 years ago. Perhaps his views have changed in the meantime.

As for the next mainline Call of Duty video game, it is rumored to be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, developed by Infinity Ward. There are also speculations that the game’s debut trailer might be revealed on April 28, 18:00 CEST (10:00 AM PT), which was revealed by game series insider ShadowMakarow.
