New Update for Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare 3 Addresses Xbox Game Pass Cheating Issues
A recent update for Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare 3 aims to resolve a specific issue affecting Xbox Game Pass users, amid ongoing concerns about cheating in the franchise. Despite the developers' continuous efforts to combat this persistent problem, instances of cheating continue to affect gameplay and player experience.
Cheating Issues and the Xbox Game Pass
Following the release of Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox Game Pass, players reported an increase in cheating. Some cheaters used the PC version from the Microsoft Store but appeared with an Xbox logo in-game. This mislabeling occurred because the Microsoft Store version tagged these players as Xbox users in lobbies, allowing PC cheaters to disguise their actions. Call of Duty explained that a recent issue with the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system, which was fixed over the weekend, led to the spike in cheater reports. They assured players that the RICOCHET system can detect the actual platform each player is using, even if it's not visible during gameplay.
Update to Address Platform Mislabeling
In response, Call of Duty has announced an update designed to address the confusion caused by the mislabeling of platforms. The update modifies the in-game user interface to clearly differentiate between Xbox and PC players using Game Pass, aiming to eliminate the ambiguity that allowed PC cheaters to appear as Xbox users. This update enhances the detection and management of cheaters. The announcement was well-received by the fan base, with many players expressing relief and optimism about the new measures.
Effectiveness of the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat System
However, some players have expressed concerns and questioned the effectiveness of the RICOCHET system, emphasizing the need for continued improvements to effectively combat cheating. While it remains to be seen what future steps Call of Duty will take to address these issues, it is worth noting that during the beta phase of Modern Warfare 3 in October 2023, players reported similar problems. In response, the franchise assured the community that an enhanced version of RICOCHET Anti-Cheat would be implemented when the game officially launched on November 10.
Ongoing Efforts to Combat Cheating
Although the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system hasn't met all players' expectations, Call of Duty is actively working to combat cheating. Recently, the franchise took action against two major cheat providers. Raging Nation announced its shutdown after a member received a legal notice from Activision, while Stealthware has also been targeted by the company. Additionally, earlier this year, Call of Duty introduced a unique method to tackle cheaters by closing the game application if aim assist is detected while using a mouse and keyboard.
Despite challenges, Call of Duty continues its efforts to create a fair and enjoyable gaming experience for all players.
