$55,225 minimum wage and 50% of prize money for players - Call of Duty League 2023 Rules Revealed

Activision Blizzard has unveiled the rules for the next season of its flagship Call of Duty League franchise. In particular, the developers have added items that relate to minimum wages and the payment of prizes to players participating in the competition.

These rules are reportedly intended to maintain a competitive balance in the Call of Duty League, provide players with greater opportunities for regular competition throughout the season, and promote their development at all levels of competitive Call of Duty.

The following is a summary of the main points that Call of Duty League 2023 participants will be following:

  • Any Players' contracts for the 2022 season that are not renewed will terminate and such Players will become free agents. Teams wishing to use the Player's renewal options must do so by August 14, 2022.
  • On August 22, 2022, the new season of the Call of Duty League begins. From now on, free agents can enter into contracts with any Teams. Teams can start applying to sign contracts for the 2023 season.
  • While Teams may discuss roster changes, including trades with other Teams, contract renewals of their current Players, and the signing of Players as free agents at any time, Teams may not enter into any formal agreements or commitments. outside of permitted transfer windows.
  • Contract negotiations are conducted between the Player and the Team. The League office will not advise players or teams in contract negotiations.
  • The minimum initial term of all long-term contracts will be one season. Long-term cooperation agreements may include a unilateral option to extend the team's tenure for one additional season. The maximum term of a long-term contract is three seasons.
  • All League players will receive a minimum annual base salary of $55,225, health care benefits, and retirement benefits.
  • If the Team decides to terminate a non-guaranteed contract with a Player, such contract with the Player will be subject to the payment of a redemption fee to be agreed between the Team and the Player.
  • Subject to certain roster requirements, Teams may sign additional Players on 14-day contracts.
  • Teams are responsible for coordinating and processing any visa documents required by Players to compete worldwide.

Note that last year the minimum wage in the Call of Duty League was set at $50,900, although, according to various sources, the salaries of many stars extended much further, up to six figures.

There weren't any changes expected in 2022, so it looks like the minimum wage has increased for the first time, which will be good news, especially for younger players who want to get into the game and prove their worth to the franchise.
