Riot Games Announces Game Changers Format Changes for Europe
Riot Games has officially announced changes to the format of the Game Changers series for Europe for 2023. As a result, the organizers decided to split the ecosystem into levels to enable amateurs to grow into professional players using the natural tools available on the competitive scene.
As VALORANT Game Changers ramps up in the EMEA region, women from all over the region continue to participate. This year we have seen more women than ever before and it is very exciting to see. As Game Changers grows, it needs to evolve. We've been listening to the Game Changers community and looking into game data, and we have some big changes planned, which we're excited to share today.
As we approach 2023, we will continue to build on the sense of community that has been a defining factor for game developers in the EMEA region, as well as take the format to the next level. We want to celebrate the development of the high-quality gameplay that we saw in the tournament bracket last year, while continuing to promote the inclusive environment that remains the foundation of the Game Changers initiative.
From now on, the Game Changers series for Europe will be divided into four levels:
- VCT Game Changers EMEA Academy and VCT Game Changers EMEA: Emergents.
- VCT Game Changers EMEA: Contenders
- League VCT Game Changers EMEA
- Game Changers World Championship
At the first level, youth teams and amateurs will grow, which will develop according to the general ecosystem. Next will be the VCT Game Changers EMEA: Contenders level, which consists of a number of competitions in different countries and regions.
From here, the best teams will proceed to the third level - the VCT Game Changers EMEA league of 16 teams. The final step is the Game Changers World Championship, which recently ended with the victory of G2 Gozen.
According to Riot Games, the new structure is aimed at further developing the Game Changers community in the EMEA region, as well as taking the format "to the next level." The company also stated that the framework provides "an ideal path to professional gaming for those in the Game Changers community."
