On June 10, Ubisoft Forward kicked off, revealing details about several already familiar games. Here's a closer look at each of the showcased titles.
Star Wars Outlaws
The presentation opened with the gameplay of Star Wars Outlaws. This project is being introduced as the first open-world game in the Star Wars setting within the gaming industry. Unlike previous linear titles like Battlefront, Star Wars Outlaws promises expansive exploration. Players will be able to travel between planets and explore vast terrains. The presentation highlighted various locations: the jungles on Akiva, the ancient city of Kijimi, the savannah on Toshara, and the iconic Tatooine. Planetary travel will be facilitated by a hovering motorcycle, while interplanetary journeys will involve a personal starship, capable of hyperspace jumps.
Although the heroine's main objective wasn't disclosed, it was revealed that the game will feature a contract system offering rewards based on risk levels. Combat will include hand-to-hand fighting and using a laser blaster, with the heroine wielding it like a revolver. Additionally, a small creature will assist the player by navigating tight spaces, distracting enemies, and even covertly eliminating them in certain situations.
A reputation system is also incorporated, affecting dialogues, though its full impact on gameplay remains unclear. One peculiar aspect noticed was the damage representation on enemies; during shooting, there is a high chance that enemies will fall as if suddenly asleep. This aspect might be refined by the game's release on August 30 for PS5, Xbox, and PC.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a well-received Metroidvania game. Ubisoft is set to enhance its reputation further by releasing a free DLC titled Mask of Darkness in September. Initial clips from streams showcased players' reactions to boss battles, followed by the reveal of new boss variations, character skins, combat challenges, and additional puzzles included in the DLC.
This move reflects Ubisoft's efforts to address past criticisms regarding paid expansions and microtransactions. However, an error in the game’s title during the official presentation was noted, with The Lost Crown mistakenly displayed as The Last Crown. Despite being a minor issue, it was noticeable.
The game is available on PS5, Xbox, Nintendo, and PC.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Following the success of The Lost Crown, Ubisoft has decided to revive the Prince of Persia franchise with a new triple-A game titled The Sands of Time. Scheduled for release in 2026, this game is set to be a remake of the 2003 title. Whether it will adhere to the original series or introduce new elements remains unknown. Based on Capcom's approach, it's possible the remake will diverge from the original plot and incorporate new mechanics.
The teaser was sparse on details, showing a transition from night to day with Persian structures in the background and a candle restoring itself before being lit.
The platforms for the game's release are yet to be announced.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Ubisoft presented an expansion for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora called The Sky Breaker. The storyline reveals a peaceful Pandora celebrating victory over Earth invaders. The Na'vi organize an Olympic-like event in honor of this peace. Gameplay suggests that players can participate in these competitions. However, the peace is short-lived as humans invade once again, resulting in many casualties. The goal is to thwart the human invasion and protect Pandora's territories and forests.
The expansion will introduce new locations and enemy types, with a release date set for July 16.
Assassin's Creed Shadows
The final game featured at Ubisoft Forward was Assassin's Creed Shadows, showcasing its gameplay in two parts. The first part focused on Yasuke, while the second part highlighted Naoe's gameplay.
Yasuke's gameplay revealed that horses will return as mounts, likely customizable. As the samurai navigates cities or villages, locals will react with a mix of fear and respect. Reactions will vary based on gender and age, with children being more cautious. There will also be an option to pet various domestic animals.
Combat scenes demonstrated impressive environmental interactions, with enemies breaking through objects upon impact. Execution animations were well-crafted, though the combat was noted to be visually overloaded. The samurai feels like a heavy fighter capable of sending enemies flying with a single blow.
Naoe's gameplay emphasized stealth mechanics, with Eagle Vision rendered in gray-red tones, fitting the ancient Japan setting. The heroine utilizes a hook for swinging on trees and performing stealth kills. The hook is also useful for climbing buildings and in open combat scenarios.
Stealth kills are presented with animations resembling ancient Japanese art. Additionally, Naoe can use a reed tube to breathe underwater.
This comprehensive showcase highlighted Ubisoft's dedication to delivering diverse and immersive gaming experiences across their upcoming titles.
The Xbox Games Showcase 2024 unveiled an exciting array of upcoming games for players to anticipate. Fans of Activision, Bethesda, Blizzard, Xbox Game Studios, and numerous Xbox partners were treated to previews of their favorite franchises and new titles alike.

Despite the impressive growth in viewership, the latest edition of Summer Game Fest 2024 received a mixed reaction from the gaming community. A survey conducted by the show's organizer and host, Geoff Keighley, revealed that over 40% of respondents rated the presentation as a "D or lower," equivalent to 2 points or less on a five-point scale.
Within just eight hours of the poll being launched on the social network X (formerly Twitter), more than 190,000 people had shared their opinions. The results were quite disheartening: only 9.2% of respondents gave the show an "A" (excellent), 24.5% rated it a "B" (good), and 26.8% rated it a "C" (satisfactory).
The comments under the poll indicated that the main disappointment for viewers was the lack of major announcements and surprises. Many felt that compared to previous years, this was one of the weakest editions of Summer Game Fest. Some even called it a "waste of time" and "the dullest gaming show."
However, Geoff Keighley appeared to take the criticism constructively. In his response, he thanked the survey participants for their honest feedback and promised to take all comments into account for future shows. He also noted that despite the mixed reviews, the initial viewership data on YouTube showed an impressive increase of 37% compared to last year.
These figures suggest that interest in Summer Game Fest remains high, even if the content doesn't always meet expectations. After all, this show is one of the main platforms where publishers and developers can present their new projects to millions of gamers worldwide.
It is clear, however, that the organizers of Summer Game Fest have some work to do. They may need to rethink the event's format, focusing more on quality rather than quantity of announcements, or bring in more major industry players who can truly surprise the audience.

Henderson reports that trailers or gameplay footage of these titles will be featured during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9.
