Overwatch 2: Players Demand More Support Plays of the Game After Impressive Lifeweaver Highlight
An Overwatch 2 player has shared an impressive play, prompting fans to demand more recognition for Support Plays of the Game. The Play of the Game (POTG) feature has been a staple since the game's launch, typically highlighting critical plays such as triple kills, knocking opponents off the map, or skillful use of Ultimate abilities. However, Tanks and Damage heroes usually dominate these end-of-match moments, leaving Support characters to receive votes or endorsements based on their healing. Despite this, Support heroes are often pivotal to a team's victory. A recent highlight sparked a discussion around recognizing more Support plays.
Reddit user Jolly-Reward-2873 uploaded a clip featuring Lifeweaver, a Season 4 hero known for exceptional healing and utility support. The video, set on the Colosseo map, captures a tense corner fight around the escort robot's route. During the battle, an allied Baptiste is knocked off the map by an enemy Lucio's Soundwave, only to be saved by Lifeweaver's Life Grip. Lifeweaver then uses the Tree of Life to provide healing, rescues a D.Va with rapid heals, and counters Zarya's Ultimate with a Petal Platform, preventing multiple deaths and possibly saving the match.
Despite this exceptional teamwork, the play was not selected as a Play of the Game, sparking calls for Blizzard to reevaluate the POTG system to highlight more Support heroes. Fans pointed out how Lifeweaver's strategic use of abilities not only rescued Baptiste but also provided crucial healing and well-timed Ultimate plays that likely impacted the team's performance. This specific corner on the Colosseo map is known to be a game-changer, and although it's unclear if this play directly secured a win, it remains remarkable that it wasn't recognized.
While Play of the Game often showcases players eliminating opponents or pushing them off the map, Blizzard may consider updating the system to give more visibility to Support plays. Recognizing these key moments could improve the feature and encourage a wider appreciation of strategic gameplay.
