Overwatch 2's Roadhog Rework: Retained Abilities Offer Reassurance to Players
As Overwatch 2 players eagerly await the launch of Season 7 and the anticipated hero changes that come with it, the development team is offering some reassurance to Roadhog enthusiasts regarding the abilities this tank hero will retain following his upcoming rework. This rework is aimed at bringing significant adjustments to Roadhog's gameplay to rebalance the hero pool in Overwatch 2.
Despite being a fan-favorite tank in Overwatch 2, Roadhog has been somewhat absent from the higher echelons of competitive play due to a series of nerfs dating back to Season 5. Several months ago, Blizzard confirmed that Roadhog was slated for a rework to fine-tune his abilities and carve out a new niche for him in the Overwatch 2 meta. However, they had been tight-lipped about specific details regarding the changes. Now, five months after the initial announcement, these adjustments will finally go live with the mid-season patch for Season 7 in October.
Alec Dawson, Lead Hero Designer on Overwatch 2, has shed more light on Roadhog's impending rework. In an official message on Blizzard's website and a subsequent confirmation on Reddit, the developer revealed that Roadhog will retain both his Chain Hook and Take a Breather abilities after the rework. These two abilities are integral to Roadhog's gameplay, with the Chain Hook allowing him to reel in elusive targets and bring them within close range, while Take a Breather enables him to gradually restore his health.
This announcement has eased the concerns of Roadhog players who were uncertain about what to expect from the upcoming changes. It appears that while these core abilities will remain intact, the rework may affect how some of his other techniques function, including Roadhog's ultimate ability, Whole Hog. The Overwatch 2 development team has promised to provide more details about Roadhog's rework in the weeks leading up to the release so that players can better prepare for the impending adjustments.
Roadhog isn't the only hero in line for a rework in the coming months, as the Overwatch 2 team has also hinted at modifications to Sombra's gameplay. While the DPS hero will maintain her hacker identity and playstyle, the development team is fine-tuning her abilities to make her more impactful in combat situations. However, they have not divulged additional specifics about what these changes entail, leaving players to eagerly anticipate Sombra's rework, set to arrive with the launch of Overwatch 2 Season 7 on October 10.
