Overwatch 2's 2023 Anniversary Event Brings Exciting Changes

Overwatch 2 players have had a lot to look forward to recently, with a mid-season patch, Hero Mastery missions, and now the 2023 Anniversary event running until October 9. This event allows players to revisit Arcade game modes from previous seasons, such as Battle for Olympus and Winter Wonderland. The coming weeks will see the return of Catch-A-Mari and Starwatch: Galactic Rescue, followed by the reintroduction of Summer Games events paired with Mischief & Magic in week three.

In addition to the Arcade matches, Overwatch 2's Anniversary Shop has introduced a new Anniversary tab, featuring nine Legendary and Epic skins from past seasons of the hero-shooter. This Anniversary category is a unique addition that was not present in the original game, addressing some player concerns about skin accessibility.

One notable improvement is the way players can obtain these skins, as they are available for purchase using Legacy Credits. Legacy Credits, originating from the original Overwatch, can be earned by completing both the premium and free tracks of the seasonal battle pass. Players can also acquire them by leveling up heroes, with eight hero levels providing a batch of Credits each week.

This system makes it easier for players to acquire the Anniversary skins without the need for complex currency conversions, streamlining the process. Excitingly, these skins, including Beekeeper Sigma, Space Raider Cassidy, Ice Angel Echo and Infinite Ace D.Va, are offered at no additional cost.

While some players who spent real money to obtain these skins might feel a bit disappointed, this approach benefits newcomers and those who didn't have a chance to acquire these skins previously. It also provides veteran players with a practical way to utilize their accumulated Legacy Credits.

The Overwatch 2 Anniversary Shop is set to close on October 16, so players are encouraged to save their Legacy Credits for the cosmetics they desire most. It's worth noting that more skins will likely be released in future seasons, so spending all credits at once may not be the wisest choice. Fortunately, players have ample opportunities to earn more Legacy Credits, including completing tiers in the Season 6 battle pass and participating in Anniversary event challenges, which can yield up to 3,000 Legacy Credits.

As for which skins might return in future seasons, it remains to be seen. Given that all the Anniversary event skins were Epic or Legendary, similar categories may be considered. However, Blizzard has yet to provide further details on this matter.
