"FAKER > SAKEN" tweet flies into space
The popular French Twitter account Arkunir has launched a campaign where the 10 most liked tweets will fly into space on September 2 with the help of Sent Into Space. One of those tweets was a comparison between two popular League of Legends players:“SAKEN > FAKER”by a die-hard Karmine Corp fan.
The tweet compares the two esportsmen and, to put it mildly, hints that Karmine Corp mid player Lucas “ Saken ” Fayard is now better than the most famous and still most popular Lee “ Faker ” Sang-hyeok, which is a huge support for the Frenchman from his home community.
But in reality, the two midlaners are quite difficult to compare since they have not yet met each other.
Lucas Fayard, aka Saken, is a rising star in the European professional League of Legends scene from the Karmine Corp team, namely the LFL and European Masters. The three-time European Masters champion in a row (EU Master Spring 2022, EU Master Summer 2021 and EU Master Spring 2021) is now considered by many to be almost the best player in his role in all of Europe.
On the other hand, Lee “ Faker ” Sang-hyeok is a T1 player, three-time LoL World Champion and countless champion of his home LCK scene. Sang-hyeok can objectively be called the most popular and recognizable esportsman in the discipline. Moreover, the player has almost 10 years of experience in the pro scene and until now he continues to hold the title of one of the strongest, if not the strongest mid player in the entire game.
I believe that with such a loud statement, the Karmine Corp fan did not so much want to annoy Faker or exalt Saken, but rather raise a fuss and draw attention to the success of the team. After all, even with the fact that Karmine can be deservedly considered one of the most competitive teams in Europe, they still fail to get a slot on the LEC - the main stage of the continent, from where you can break into the Worlds.
Relatively recently, it also became known that Misfits Gaming are selling their slot at the LEC and it will go to Heretics next season, which will be head and shoulders weaker than Karmine Corp. Even then, many fans were unhappy with this. But in order to take a slot in the tournament, it’s not enough just to be a strong team. You also have to go through tons of bureaucracy and negotiate with the owner of the slot.
