Released in 2015 for the Xbox One, Halo 5 was the next installment in what 343 Industries called the Reclaimer Saga. Although the game received criticism for its campaign, its multiplayer mode, which featured dynamic movement abilities like the Thruster Pack, Ground Pound, and Charge, was well-received. The game also introduced a large cast of characters, including Spartan Locke, the leader of Fireteam Osiris. Locke, along with the Master Chief, was one of the two main protagonists in Halo 5’s campaign and prominently featured in the game's promotional material, including the box art.

Recently, a gamer known as AftermaThXCVII on the Halo subreddit highlighted a surprising detail about the box art. The player discovered that part of a battle rifle, specifically the BR85 SR, was partially covering Spartan Locke’s chest armor. To support this claim, AftermaThXCVII included a picture of the weapon, noting that the stock and insignia matched those seen in the box art.

Halo 5's Box Art Features a Hidden Battle Rifle

It's surprising that a weapon in the foreground of the box art went unnoticed for nearly nine years. On Reddit, numerous gamers expressed their astonishment, with many upvoting the post and commenting that they had never noticed the cropped gun before. Some fans speculate that Locke was originally holding the weapon before the image was edited for the box art.

One reason the battle rifle went unnoticed could be the shadows cast on Locke’s dark-colored armor. The dark composition and intricate details on the character’s armor make it difficult to discern where one piece ends and another begins without closer inspection.

This discovery is a testament to what passionate fans can uncover about their favorite games, even years after their release. While many gamers may have moved on from Halo 5 to other popular FPS games on Xbox, it will be interesting to see if those who still play the game uncover any other hidden secrets in the future.
