Tom's Hardware Spokesperson Tests Steam Deck
One of Tom's Hardware reporters ran a Steam Deck test and played some modern AAA games. In the review, he indicated that he played games such as Control, Halo 4, Witcher 3 and others. The most recent of these games, Control, has to be played at low graphics settings at 1280x800. If you raise the graphics parameters, then you will have to pay for a higher quality image with precious FPS indicators, which obviously negatively affects the gaming experience.
In older games, Halo 4 and Witcher 3 performed more consistently. It is noteworthy that in Halo 4, texture anti-aliasing was turned on, and in the triquel of the saga about the Witcher Geralt, the journalist played at medium graphics settings, which looks good at 1280x800.
The representative of Tom's Hardware drew particular attention to the fact that in portable mode, for which, in fact. and the Steam Deck is designed, the console does not lose performance. Network connection, unlike many devices, does not affect the FPS rate in any way. He also noted the fast loading of games from the SD card. If you move them to an SSD drive, then according to the journalist, the difference in download between the Steam Deck and personal computers is practically not felt.
The journalist also noted the excellent design of the console, which feels quite comfortable in the hands. He called it "wide but not bulky," noting the size that it perfectly copes with the tasks assigned to it.
On July 15, Valve announced their handheld Steam Deck. The console should go on sale at the end of 2020. A unique feature of the Steam Deck should be the complete synchronization of the console with the users' Steam account, which in theory will allow you to run almost any game on the Steam Deck, even the most demanding one. The portable game console will come in three variations, with prices ranging from $ 399 to $ 649.
