The Last of Us Part II writers Neil Druckmann and Holly Gross took to the Script Apart podcast, sharing information about the next installment of the famous game. As part of the podcast, Druckmann confirmed that he had already sketched a rough script for The Last of Us 3 for Naughty Dog, thereby confirming that the studio plans to start developing a sequel.

Holly Gross and I wrote a sketch of the plot, it has not been put into operation, but I hope that sooner or later a project that tells about what happened after the end of the game will still see the light of day. Well, let's see.

It should be noted that these words do not yet mean the start of development. On the contrary, The Last of Us 3 may not come out at all. According to the game designer, it will take a tremendous amount of time and effort to create a project of this scale, so it is definitely not worth expecting a continuation in the next few years.

In addition to the ambitious multiplayer project The Last of Us Factions, to which Sony Bend contributed, there is also a remake of The Last of Us, the development of which was unofficially confirmed in a recent Bloomberg report.

After the original game released in 2013, Naughty Dog released two games before returning to work on The Last of Us Part II. Druckmann himself is currently busy adapting the game for HBO, where Joel will be played by Pedro Pascal and Ellie will be played by Bella Ramsey.

That said, given the amount of work that goes between multiplayer spin-offs, remakes, and the series, it's fair to assume that The Last of Us 3 will see the light of day.
