NVIDIA starts a tough fight with miners
The American technology company NVIDIA announced the development of a special driver that slows down the operation of the GeForce RTX 3060 video card by half in case of detection of cryptocurrency mining algorithms. Information about this appeared in the official blog of the company.
NVIDIA GPUs are programmable, allowing users to continually discover new applications for them, from weather simulation and gene sequencing to deep learning and robotics. Cryptocurrency mining is one of them. However, the problem with mining has reached an exorbitant level, since there is a shortage of video cards on the market and a rise in prices for existing models. At the same time, NVIDIA is launching a large-scale campaign to combat mining, trying to burst the bubble of scarcity in the market.
NVIDIA also developed the CMP HX processor, which is specifically designed for mining. As noted in the company's statement, mining accelerators do not calculate graphics, do not have video outputs, and are optimized specifically for mining cryptocurrencies. The device will go on sale in the first quarter of 2021, with an improved version coming out in the second quarter.
The release of the GeForce RTX 3060 is scheduled for February 25, 2021. The recommended price for the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB is $ 329.99.
