GTA 6 New Details Revealed by Edge - Map, NPCs, Open World, Police, and More
The latest issue of Edge Magazine is out, and it is all about GTA 6, the most anticipated game of 2026, which launches in exactly three weeks. The magazine pays special attention to details of Rockstar’s upcoming game, including updated information on the map’s size, open-world activities, the relationship between Jason and Lucia, and more.
The information was shared by Rockstar North executives Rob Nelson, Phil Hooker, and Aaron Garbut, who have been revealing details about the game for the past few months. Below you can check out everything revealed about GTA 6 in the new Edge issue, as reported by GamesRadar.
- The map of GTA 6 is about as large as the maps of GTA 4, GTA 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined. It is roughly twice as dense as GTA 5’s map and has 10 times more interiors than the previous games.
- Every location, even the most unremarkable one, is designed in detail and is unique. Players can enter random houses where something changes each time. There are no cookie-cutter or repeated scenarios.
- The whole map is open from the start, so players can explore every corner without progressing through the story.
- Staring at an NPC for too long may provoke a confrontation. All characters have their own personality traits that affect their behavior, reactions, and aggression.
- Weather, including wind and storms, affects gameplay. It changes how trees, waves, boats, and helicopters behave, and boats and helicopters can be damaged. As the weather gets worse, NPCs react and look for shelter. Clouds also move and change depending on the season, humidity, and time of day.
- The day-and-night cycle has been greatly expanded.
- Players can use buses and trains as public transport, and they run on a schedule.
- Rockstar has created about 600,000 animations for NPCs.
- Roads and highways are more realistic than in GTA 5. After rain, the road surface and buildings dry at different rates.
- Jason can smoke cigarettes from his inventory. Coffee increases stamina, and protein shakes increase health.
- Your criminal profile affects how the story progresses.
- Jason and Lucia have a four-level relationship system, and the higher the level, the closer they are. They can go for walks, ride bikes, hit the gym, and go on dates. At the start of the game, the characters want to be together and give their relationship a second chance.
- The police track your appearance, clothing, weapons, CCTV footage, and whether you have a partner. Changing clothes, getting rid of weapons, or splitting up can help you evade them.
- When you steal expensive cars, GPS trackers may reveal your location. The police also use spike strips and police dogs to catch you.
- The Scooter Bros app delivers your personal car in seconds for a fee, while the WAINK app shows cars wanted by criminals, including their security systems. Stolen cars must be delivered to buyers, and the payout depends on the car’s condition.
- All your weapons are stored in the car’s trunk.
- Each vehicle has a fuel gauge and an engine status indicator. You can travel long distances before needing to refuel.
- Some story missions require a certain amount of money. You can earn it by robbing stores and jewelry shops or stealing cars.
- Rockstar built mechanics that let Jason and Lucia react to bad smells with different facial expressions and levels of disgust. In one scene, Jason walks into a dirty house and grimaces and recoils.
- It took the studio a long time to find an actor for the role of Jason.
- According to Rob Nelson, GTA 6 is in fact ready for release.
On paper, all of this makes GTA 6 sound like a game of incredible scale. Edge also published several new GTA 6 screenshots, which you can check out below in a slideshow:

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S owners are surely counting down the days, with only three weeks left until release. PC players are probably envious, but a new report claims GTA 6 will come to PC 6 to 7 months after the console launch, which means by the end of June 2027.
