Capcom Plans to Extend the Story of Resident Evil Requiem Over the Next 10 Years

This year, Capcom released the ninth installment of Resident Evil, titled Requiem—it became one of the best games this year and a huge success for the studio. It also earned the title of the fastest-selling game in the series' history, and its story, as it turned out, laid the groundwork for the franchise's immediate future.

This information came to light thanks to an interview producer Jun Takeuchi gave to the Japanese edition of Yahoo. He spoke a lot about the franchise as a whole, but fans paid particular attention to his remarks regarding Requiem. According to Takeuchi, with the release of the ninth installment, Capcom has concluded its first ten-year cycle, and over the next ten years, the story will be brought to a close. Takeuchi also confirmed that several Resident Evil games will release over the next 10 years—though he did not specify an exact number. You can check out his more detailed comments below:

“With the release of Requiem this year, I feel that the first ten years have reached a natural milestone; I expect things to reach a conclusion over the next ten years.

I can't say, as that would spoil the surprise for everyone—but it certainly won't be just one. There will be multiple titles.”

Capcom is known to be officially working on a story DLC for Requiem and a new remake, Resident Evil Veronica. Both projects are expected to launch in 2027. Rumors also suggest the release of a Resident Evil Zero remake in 2028, a remake of the original game, and the tenth anniversary installment of the franchise.

Speaking of expanding on the story laid out in Requiem, insider Dusk Golem has repeatedly stated that the upcoming DLC for the ninth installment will be connected to Resident Evil Veronica—there have been mentions of a possible cameo by Leon S. Kennedy and the appearance of Zeno in both projects. Additionally, Capcom shared its latest financial report today: sales of Resident Evil Requiem totaled 8.51 million copies, and the franchise's total sales have surpassed 218 million copies worldwide.
