Game Director of Cancelled Mass Effect 5 Reacted to BioWare’s Closure and Mentioned GTA 6

The stormy decision made by Electronic Arts this week continues to make waves. As is well known, the company announced the closure of BioWare and officially canceled the development of Mass Effect 5, the next installment in the franchise, which had been announced back in 2020.

Apart from players who have been actively speaking out about the closure of BioWare and the cancellation of Mass Effect 5, Michael Gamble—the person who oversaw the game’s development right up until its cancellation— has also responded. On his X page, he thanked everyone for their support and jokingly noted he won’t have to take sick leave next month when GTA 6 comes out. You can check out Gamble’s full statement below:

I could probably scroll for hours and continue reading the words of support for the studio, the legacy, and the impact that BioWare has had on you. It means so much to us. There is so much talent on this team of of OGs, so if you are aware of any roles, please send them. I will personally vouch for everyone in my crew.

As for me: At least i don't have to call in sick when GTA 6 comes out.

Swen Vincke, the head of Larian Studios (Baldur's Gate 3, Divinity: Original Sin), also reacted to BioWare's closure on his X page, writing that it is a huge loss for everyone. Meanwhile, fans have already launched a petition to save Mass Effect, which has gained immense popularity—in just over 72 hours, it has gathered more than 110,000 signatures.

All this attention on the canceled Mass Effect 5 was likely sparked by a leaked trailer that confirmed the game’s ambitions and the “Universe” subtitle. Meanwhile, an insider participating in the game’s closed beta test shared details about the story and gameplay of Mass Effect: Universe, adding that BioWare was developing the game for true fans.
