WARDOGS Season 3 Could Start Much Sooner Because Players Progressed Too Fast

WARDOGS Season 2 kicked off on October 15, but players progressed far faster than the developers expected. Within just a few days, part of the community had already reached Tier 4 armor and main battle tanks, gear that was supposed to take much longer to unlock. Now developer Bulkhead is considering launching Season 3 much earlier than planned.

Season 2 started on October 15 and brought the game’s first-ever progression wipe, along with new weapons, tanks, weather changes, and more. At the same time, Bulkhead deliberately sped up leveling. Reaching level 20 now takes 111,500 XP instead of the 250,000 it took in Season 1. On top of that, the Lonestar faction received cash and XP bonuses.

Those same changes made the wipe pointless. On October 17, the studio released a statement admitting that Season 2 was meant to be a fresh start but hadn’t felt like one for many players. Just days in, plenty of players had already reached top-tier Tier 4 armor, unlocked main battle tanks, and more. The developers explained that they sped up progression on purpose while trying to balance the game better, but it turned out to be the wrong call.

Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer said Season 2 was designed to be more accessible to players with less free time. According to him, streamers who play all the time find progression too fast, while regular players, like dads who sit down to play after work, struggle to reach the bigger unlocks.

If you want to see for yourself how fast leveling has become in WARDOGS Season 2 but keep running into ping issues, give IceVPN a try. We tested it ourselves on Valve’s shooter in How To Fix Ping in CS2, and we can confirm it really helps lower your ping across competitive games.

After acknowledging the problems with Season 2, the developers said there won’t be another wipe this weekend for now. In the company’s view, that would be unfair to players who enjoy the faster progression. Instead, Bulkhead is considering bringing the start of Season 3 forward significantly and moving some of the planned content up. There’s no exact start date yet, and the developers will share more about their plans in next week’s dev vlog.
