Liquid Swords, Developers Behind Samson, Went Bankrupt

This April, Liquid Swords, the studio founded by former Mad Max and Just Cause developers, released its debut game, Samson. Despite an attractive setting and an interesting concept, the game fell short of expectations, and a new report claims things aren’t going well for the studio.

According to Breakit, Liquid Swords is facing bankruptcy. The studio has been delaying employee salaries for several months. About 30 employees will reportedly receive government compensation, while management will start looking for potential buyers.

“The troubled game developer Liquid Swords has not paid salaries for several months. Now bankruptcy is definitely a fact, which means the state will step in and compensate the almost 30 employees. At the same time, the bankruptcy trustee is hopeful of finding a buyer.”

However, Liquid Swords hasn’t issued an official statement yet. Based on Sensor Tower, Samson sold more than 60,000 copies on Steam, with potential revenue of around $1.2 million, which likely fell short of the team’s expectations. Last month, the game also came out on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and the PC version got another major update. Apparently, it didn’t help much.

Samson is a crime action game about Samson McCray, who owes the mafia $100,000. When the mob kidnaps his sister, players race against a time limit, completing missions as quickly as possible to pay off the debt and get her back. The game got mixed reviews from critics and currently has a score of 51 on Metacritic.

Samson is available on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
