GTA 6 Is Confirmed to Participate in The Game Awards 2026

There has been a lot of debate over whether GTA 6 could be nominated at The Game Awards 2026. It looked unlikely, given the game’s release date and the date of the show. Now it seems the question has been answered.

Social media users noticed an updated FAQ on The Game Awards website. It claims that games must go on sale no later than November 20 to be eligible - and that is one day after GTA 6 launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. So Rockstar’s new game can be nominated in various TGA categories, and probably will be.

‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ will officially be eligible for The Game Awards 2026.

The eligibility cutoff is November 20th, just one day after GTA 6 launches.

It’s worth noting that just a few hours ago, news broke that reviewers will get their copies of GTA 6 later this month, which gives them plenty of time to evaluate the game. Speaking of GTA 6 and its chances of winning Game of the Year at TGA, Polygon reported last month that Rockstar’s new project has no real competition for the award. The game hasn’t been released yet, but everything suggests it will be one of the most ambitious and highest-quality games of the year in story and gameplay. A win in the top category at The Game Awards 2026 looks likely, if not guaranteed.

GTA 6 has been in the spotlight for practically the entire year, and that's certainly the case now, as Rockstar has released a new game trailer to mark the upcoming launch. Grand Theft Auto VI will release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
