Valor Mortis Is Coming to Xbox Game Pass Right on Release Day

One More Level, the studio behind the Ghostrunner duology, has reminded players that its new Soulslike, Valor Mortis, will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. The game launches October 13 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and it has also appeared on the official Xbox Play Day One page alongside Gears of War: E-Day, Fable, and Persona 4 Revival.

Valor Mortis is a first-person Soulslike set in an alternate version of the Napoleonic Wars with supernatural elements. Players control a revived soldier of the Grande Armée named William, who must master new abilities to stand against Napoleon's monsters. The emperor himself is played by French actor Vincent Cassel.

The release was originally planned for September 24, but the studio moved it to October 13 to avoid competing with big September releases such as Control Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall.

Those without a subscription will be able to buy the game for $39.99 for the standard edition or $59.99 for the Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe Edition includes cosmetic packs and a major story DLC planned for 2027. There will be no pre-orders, and the developers explained why:

We want to let the completed version of our game do the talking. You'll be able to buy it when you have a full picture of Valor Mortis' quality, creativity and craft at launch

Publisher Lyrical Games explained the lower price by pointing to an exceptionally packed fall. According to the company's CEO Blake Rochkind, Valor Mortis is meant to be an "and" purchase alongside the big blockbusters rather than a replacement for them.
