Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Critic Reviews Revealed—Switch 2 Received Another High-Praise Exclusive

To mark the occasion, gaming media outlets have already had the chance to try out the game and share their reviews—and it looks like Nintendo has once again delivered a solid exclusive that has received widespread acclaim.

Critics have praised the story of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, noting how the four characters' storylines intertwine, as well as several gameplay aspects—including the combat system and exploration. They also highlight the soundtrack, which significantly enhances the game's atmosphere. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is an essential game for fans of Fire Emblem and SRPGs, and if you’re new to the series or genre, there’s no better place to get started. The stories of Dietrich, Theodora, Cai, and Leda are all brilliant, worthy of their own Fire Emblem game, and the fact that we get them all in one is just a bonus. It’s still early days, but I’m confident that Fortune’s Weave will be considered one of the best RPGs in the Switch 2’s library even a decade from now.

IGN – 100/100:

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave builds upon its strategic arts in ways I couldn’t have anticipated. It’s never satisfied to make me grow only as a battlefield tactician, or only in my ability to manage my time between skirmishes wisely, but both in perfect harmony. Every time I turned around, I was being given more challenges to face and more tools to master in order to overcome them. The many unique twists of each hero’s story path had me eager to see all the ways those journeys differed from each other, making the grand culmination in the final act hit so damn well. Planning out my expeditions across an imposing map became an unexpected highlight that not only hooked me, but rewarded my persistence by continuing to expand all the ways I could direct my armies as I tried to stay on top of newly emerging threats. The scope of both its formidably challenging battles and intricate management systems would be wildly ambitious for one path, let alone spread across four – yet somehow Fortune’s Weave only gets better and better each time you guide its captivating heroes into the colosseum and far beyond.

A synergy of everything that has made the series great for generations, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave hits the pinnacle of combat design, and is a sumptuous feast of a game.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is excessive in almost every conceivable direction. It has more story than it strictly needs, more characters than most players will fully explore, systems that disappear for dozens of hours before returning in wonderfully ridiculous combinations, and a campaign long enough that reaching its ending felt like completing an actual journey. Yet almost none of that excess feels careless. After 121 hours, I was exhausted, but I wouldn't wish away any meaningful portion of that time. Fortune's Weave takes the foundations of modern Fire Emblem, stretches them further than I could have ever expected, and somehow makes that enormous ambition feel justified. I wanted it to be the absurdly comprehensive Fire Emblem game its premise promised me. Somehow, it was.

Fortune's Weave is the right direction for Fire Emblem: the series' most mature and deepest story holding up an unprecedented freedom of play. One of the best entries and probably the most original.

Judging by critics' reviews, Nintendo has managed to develop another Switch 2 exclusive that is poised to compete not only for the Game of the Year title but also in other categories. Incidentally, the studio's other game, Pokémon Pokopia, recently won the top prize at the 2026 Japan Game Awards.
