Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons First Gameplay Revealed at Gamescom 2026

Announced at The Game Awards 2025, Invoke Studios' Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons only showed a debut trailer at the time, revealing very little about the new action RPG. Now, though, the game made an appearance at Opening Night Live with actual gameplay, and it's looking a lot more promising.

The show featured an 8-minute gameplay demo, offering a much closer look at the title. Invoke Studios is leaning into a large open world, along with heavy use of magic, spells, and puzzle-solving. Visually and in terms of combat, Warlock comes across as a mix of Hogwarts Legacy and The Witcher, which is an intriguing combination. Story-wise, the protagonist is a young woman named Kaatri, who made a deal with the witch Tasha and became a warlock herself. She's now searching for someone close to her who's gone missing in Darkon, the game's setting. It was also revealed that Maggie Robertson, best known for playing Lady Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village, voices Tasha. You can check out the latest gameplay footage below:

Gaming journalists also shared additional details after getting access to a closed presentation of Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons following Opening Night Live. The combat system reportedly plays out almost like a rhythmic dance, with the protagonist summoning melee weapons while casting spells and following through with damage. There will also be a wide range of character progression options, and magic can be used outside combat too, for things like climbing structures or disarming enemies. As for ties to the broader Dungeons & Dragons universe, several classic spells have been confirmed for the game, including Eldritch Blast, Gust of Wind, Levitate, and Black Tentacles.

Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons will release in 2027 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. The exact release date is currently unknown.
