Refugium Games Released the First Patch for Agefield High: Rock the School After a Catastrophic Launch on Steam

This week marks the release of a game that many had been eagerly awaiting. We’re talking about Agefield High: Rock the School, developed by Refugium Games—as it looks and is presented as the spiritual successor to Bully, a Rockstar Games classic, where we once again take on the role of a schoolboy, attend lessons, and experience life in a small-town setting. Unfortunately, the new project turned out to be nowhere near as good as Bully and probably had the worst launch of 2026.

Shortly after the release of Agefield High: Rock the School, the gaming media and Steam users ‘tore the game to shreds’ with negative reviews —the main focus was on the appalling optimization and the game’s inability to run on even the most powerful PCs. Meanwhile, other aspects of the game—particularly the animations, the detailing of the game's world (or rather, the lack thereof), the ‘unpolished’ NPCs, and the high price tag for such ‘quality’—were also widely discussed amongst players. Refugium Games could not, of course, ignore this backlash and have already released the first update for the game, as announced on their Steam page. The statement claims that the developers literally stayed up all night to fix a host of issues but noted that the studio has limited staff resources—so players may need to be patient until Agefield High: Rock the School reaches a more or less playable state.

Despite the patch's release, the situation regarding reviews for Agefield High: Rock the School hasn’t improved much. On the day of its release, the game had 79% negative reviews, and this number has now fallen to 67%, as revealed via SteamDB. In any case, as noted in user reviews, they do not recommend purchasing the game for the time being, as Agefield High: Rock the School still feels like an unfinished product, and you may end up spoiling your experience of it.

However, it is also worth noting that Agefield High: Rock the School currently has over 200 positive reviews on Steam (though there are twice as many negative ones). Players point out that this is not Bully 2 and advise against comparing it to the Rockstar Games title. Agefield High: Rock the School is an indie project with some interesting ideas that, once most of its technical issues have been resolved, still stand a chance of finding their audience, and hopefully the developers will manage to bring the game, if not to perfection, then at least to a playable level.

Agefield High: Rock the School is now available on PC. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions will release later this year.
