Amazon Will Look for New Actors for Atreus and Thrud In God of War Season 2

As you may know, Amazon is adapting the God of War games, developed by Santa Monica Studio, into a TV series—based specifically on the events of the 2018 reboot and its sequel, God of War: Ragnarok. It was recently revealed Ryan Hurst will be replaced as Kratos after suffering a serious injury during filming. It turns out he won't be the only one getting recast.

According to a new MP1st report, the upcoming second season of the God of War TV series will bring in new actors for Atreus and Thrud. Callum Vinson and Island Austin respectively played those roles in season one, but despite the time jump between the events of the first game and Ragnarok, the characters will appear older on screen. The report also notes Amazon is already searching for potential actors between the ages of 14 and 17.

Despite Season 1 not airing yet, we've uncovered that Amazon's God of War Season 2 to cast older versions of Atreus and Thrud.

Beyond that first glimpse of Kratos (Ryan Hurst) and Atreus (Callum Vinson), Amazon hasn't shared anything else officially about the God of War TV adaptation. With the lead actor's injury, we'll likely have to wait a bit longer for another look at the show. The cast also includes Ed Skrein (Baldur), Olafur Darri Olafsson (Thor), Mandy Patinkin (Odin), Alastair Duncan (Mimir), Danny Woodburn (Brok), Jeff Gulka (Sindri), Teresa Parkers (Sif), Max Parker (Heimdall), and others.

Speaking of the God of War games, Santa Monica Studio confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con that God of War Laufey will release on February 16, 2027, exclusively for PlayStation 5, with Kratos returning as the main protagonist in another, brand-new project. There's also a God of War Trilogy Remake in development, with T.C. Carson returning as Kratos. That game was announced this February at State of Play, but it's believed to still be in the early stages, with no release date yet.
