Asobo Studio, the Team Behind A Plague Tale Franchise, Is Working on a Brand-New Franchise

This month, on August 27th, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy officially launches on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. This new entry in Asobo Studio's A Plague Tale franchise serves as a prequel to the first installment, revealing more about Sophia, a character introduced in A Plague Tale: Requiem. It's also come to light that the studio's working on a brand-new title.

According to job postings on Asobo's website, the studio is working on a new video game, not related to its previous projects. They're currently hiring for several positions, including Camera System Designer, Senior VFX Artist, and Rigger. Players have also discovered that development on this project has been underway for three years and that it will be a linear, story-driven action title. The release is apparently still a few years out, suggesting it could target the next console generation—PlayStation 6 and Project Helix.

Given that timeline, an announcement probably isn't happening anytime soon, since the project is likely still in the early stages of development. Additionally, Asobo Studios is still working on Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy.

Speaking of which, the game officially went gold last month, confirming there won't be any delays. The story takes place 15 years before the original game, letting players learn more about Sophia's past, including her relationship with the father. The developers have previously claimed Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will lean more into action than the stealth mechanics from the first two games. Players can also expect a time-switching mechanic shifting between two historical periods—medieval times, where you control Sophia, and the era of the Minoan civilization, where it looks like players will experience the memories of another character, possibly connected to Makula. On top of that, Minotaur Island will function as a mini sandbox, letting Sophia uncover secrets and explore ancient labyrinths.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is confirmed to release on August 27 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
