Microsoft Will Keep Investing In MachineGames—Wolfenstein 3 Is In Active Development

In recent days, amid news about Microsoft's restructuring, there have been rumors about possible closures of certain gaming studios, as well as massive layoffs. However, it seems like MachineGames, known for the Wolfenstein franchise as well as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, is definitely not on that list—moreover, the studio is expected to receive full support from the publisher.

According to Jez Corden from Windows Central, Microsoft will continue investing in MachineGames, and the source adds that the studio is actively developing Wolfenstein 3—and rumors about its development have circulated earlier this year. Moreover, alongside the new title, a TV series based on the franchise is currently in the works, with producers from Amazon's Fallout adaptation working on it. This project serves as a source of inspiration, as Microsoft hopes it will help the franchise to attract a new audience. Speaking about video game adaptations, it seems that Microsoft plans to do the same with Sea of Thieves, as reports indicate that a movie based on Rare’s video game is currently in development.

Regarding MachineGames and Wolfenstein 3, it was recently revealed that the studio’s director, Jerk Gustafsson, has become the president of Arkane Studios, although there has been no official announcement yet. In recent weeks, Arkane was mentioned among studios that might face closure amid Microsoft’s restructuring process, and in that way the studio’s upcoming project, Marvel’s Blade, could be cancelled. However, Gustafsson’s appointment seems to deny those earlier reports. Meanwhile, Jez Corden also mentioned on his blog that Microsoft has no plans to cancel Marvel’s Blade, which could indicate that Arkane Studios is currently relatively secure.

Speaking of Wolfenstein 3, earlier this year rumors about the game claimed we will see the return of William Blazkowicz, along with the appearance of new characters—a girl named Sophia and her dog, Ralph.
