Troy Baker Reveals What He Would Like to See In The Last of Us: Part III
As is well known, Naughty Dog is currently working on a new IP - the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive titled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which was announced back in 2024 during The Game Awards show. However, there have been rumors that the studio may also be developing the third installment in The Last of Us game series—the franchise that brought the developers worldwide fame.
Keeping that in mind, Insider Gaming recently spoke with Troy Baker—the voice and motion-capture actor for Joel Miller—who shared his thoughts about what The Last of Us: Part III could potentially be. In particular, Baker expressed interest in exploring the relationship between his character, Joel, and his brother Tommy, as well as seeing the 20-year gap between the outbreak and before Joel meets Ellie. You can find Baker’s more detailed comments below:
“I would be on board with anything. If Neil decides that he has a place for me, then I’ve learned at this point to listen to him, because he’s really smart.
There’s this beautiful thing about the mystery of what happened between Tommy and Joel, there is all the time, the 20 years, you’ve got such beautiful lore to choose from. I think that makes a great foundation for a story.
I’ve also learned to trust Naughty Dog, and maybe there’s a whole other story there that we’re not thinking about.I’m going to let Neil and Naughty Dog decide, as we look forward, are we looking back? Are we going to revisit something? Or are we going to continue to reinvent. That’s their call. But whether it is something that you are playing, or with me with a controller in hand, I’m there day one.”
It's also worth remembering that not long ago, Troy Baker teased the possible return of Joel Miller, as he mentioned that we would see the character in action again—whether in video games, films, series, or comics. As for The Last of Us: Part III, Naughty Dog has yet to make any announcements, since the studio's current priority is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet—which, according to rumors, is set to release next year. Nevertheless, Neil Druckmann, the game director of the franchise, reportedly wanted to explore the concept of other immune citizens; originally, this idea was supposed to be in The Last of Us: Part II and ultimately cut due to a feud between Ellie and Abby, but now he wants to dedicate a brand-new The Last of Us video game for it.
