Marvel's Blade Is Still Far Away from Being Finished and Could Be Released Next Year

In recent weeks, Marvel's Blade, which is developed by Arkane Studios, has been one of the most discussed titles. However, the attention was sparked by disturbing news—the potential closure of the developer studio and, as a result, the cancellation of the upcoming project. It hasn't happened yet, and now a new report reveals a possible release window for the game.

A well-known gaming journalist, Jeff Grubb, who recently revealed that Marvel’s Blade might be cancelled but it turned out to be a false report, appeared on the Giant Bombcast podcast, where he shared some information about the upcoming superhero project. According to Grubb, Microsoft is not willing to assign the additional funds needed for Marvel's Blade's development, and this is the main factor that will determine whether the game gets a chance to survive or not. Arkane Studios is still working on the project, and if circumstances work out favorably, it could be released as early as next year. You can check out Grubb's words from the podcast below:

“Blade sounds like it was pretty far along, they were going to begin debuting it in some way later this year, and maybe even release it next year. It sounds like it needed more time and they just didn't want to pay for that.

I just don't know about some of these decisions, it sounds to me like Xbox is at the end of the line, and these are all about making it as light as possible for whatever the future might hold, whether that is under Microsoft or maybe selling Xbox to some third party at some point.”

Rumors about the cancellation of Marvel's Blade have become relevant again following a recent report from The Verge, which claimed that Arkane Studios might be shut down as part of Microsoft's restructuring. The report also mentioned the possibility of the studio being sold. However, no official statements have been made at this point. At the same time, Bethesda’s head, Todd Howard, gave a sense of confidence about Marvel’s Blade development, as he personally visited Arkane’s office recently and confirmed the game is progressing well.

Marvel’s Blade takes place in Paris, where a quarantine has been enforced due to a vampire outbreak. Blade must enter one of these quarantined zones to face an unknown threat and uncover the reasons behind it. The game is a first-person action-adventure featuring immersive sim elements, as players will not only follow the main storyline but also have the freedom to explore a semi-open world, uncover secrets, and interact with its residents. The gameplay is anticipated to be nonlinear, with a combat system that combines melee attacks, stealth tactics, and firearms.
