Todd Howard Confirms Arkane is Still Working on Marvel's Blade and They Are Doing a "Great Job"

This month brought several worrisome developments for fans of Marvel's Blade, the new game announced at The Game Awards 2023 by Arkane Studios. First, a well-known gaming journalist Jeff Grubb reported that the game had allegedly been canceled, although it was denied later. In addition, there have been rumors suggesting that Arkane Studios, along with other game divisions, might be shut down in the near future. Fortunately, no official statements have been made on this matter so far.

Nevertheless, a somewhat positive update came from Todd Howard, the head of Bethesda Game Studios, which is the publisher of Marvel's Blade. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Howard mentioned that he had recently visited the Arkane office and was impressed with what he saw regarding Marvel's Blade. The highlights from his interview you can check out below:

"I'm not at liberty to say when but I saw some stuff and the folks at Arkane are doing a really, really great job."

In the same interview, Howard also shared a bit about the development of The Elder Scrolls VI —a game that celebrated its eighth anniversary since announcement this month. Unfortunately, no new details were revealed, but Todd Howard added that the studio needs more time in order to “get it right.” At the same time, Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty, who recently visited Bethesda’s office, said that The Elder Scrolls VI looks amazing.

Regarding Marvel's Blade, the developers have hinted on social media to fans waiting for updates that they need more time to fully realize their vision. The game's story takes place in Paris, where a quarantine has been enforced due to a vampire outbreak. Blade must enter one of these quarantined zones to face an unknown threat and uncover the reasons behind its appearance. Marvel's Blade is expected to be a first-person action-adventure featuring immersive sim elements—players will not only follow the main storyline but also have the freedom to explore a semi-open world, uncover secrets, and interact with its inhabitants. The gameplay is anticipated to be nonlinear, with a combat system that combines melee attacks, stealth tactics, and firearms.
