Resident Evil 4 Remake Finally Gets a Co-Op Multiplayer Mod

Resident Evil 4 Remake fans finally have a way to experience the iconic survival horror adventure with a friend, thanks to a newly released multiplayer mod that adds full co-op support to the game's campaign.

The fan-made project allows a second player to join Leon throughout the story, transforming one of the franchise’s most beloved single-player experiences into a cooperative adventure.

New Mod Brings Co-Op Gameplay to Resident Evil 4 Remake

Created by modder claybtv, the new Resident Evil 4 Multiplayer mod is now available for PC players to download.

The mod synchronizes two copies of Resident Evil 4 Remake, allowing both players to explore the campaign together. One player can control Leon, while the second can choose from various characters, including Ashley, Wesker, or even another version of Leon.

According to the mod's creator, enemy behavior, scripted events, switches, and progression elements are synchronized between both players, making it possible to complete the entire campaign cooperatively.

Still in Beta With Some Technical Issues

While the mod is an impressive achievement, it remains in beta and comes with several known issues.

Players may encounter:

  • Lag and network-related delays
  • Stuttering enemy animations
  • Bugs in specific encounters, including the Del Lago boss fight
  • Gameplay interruptions when one player opens the inventory, which pauses the game for the other participant

Setting up the mod also requires some coordination, as both players must be located in the same area of the game before synchronization can begin.

Despite these limitations, many fans are already praising the project for successfully bringing a long-requested co-op experience to Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Resident Evil's Long History With Multiplayer

Although Resident Evil is primarily known for its single-player survival horror experiences, the series has experimented with multiplayer several times in the past.

Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 featured full co-op campaigns, while Resident Evil Outbreak allowed up to four players to survive together. Other titles, such as Resident Evil Revelations 2, included more limited multiplayer functionality.

The new Resident Evil 4 Remake mod appears to take inspiration from Resident Evil 5's cooperative design, offering both players meaningful participation throughout the adventure.

PC Exclusive for Now

Unfortunately, the mod is only available for the PC version of Resident Evil 4 Remake, meaning console players won't be able to take advantage of the feature.

Meanwhile, rumors surrounding a potential Resident Evil 5 Remake continue to circulate, although Capcom has yet to make any official announcements.

The publisher has already revealed Resident Evil: Veronica, a remake of the fan-favorite Code: Veronica, while reports have also suggested that a Resident Evil Zero remake may be in development. However, neither project has been confirmed to include cooperative gameplay.

Multiplayer Mods Continue to Grow in Popularity

Resident Evil 4 Remake joins a growing list of major single-player games receiving community-made multiplayer support.

Throughout 2026, multiplayer mods have either launched or entered development for titles such as The Witcher 3, Kingdom Hearts 3, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, highlighting the increasing demand for cooperative experiences in traditionally single-player games.
