Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, the Franchise’s Prequel, Is Confirmed to Release This August

The A Plague Tale franchise, launched by Asobo Studio in 2019, is set to continue growing, with the upcoming prequel Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy expected to significantly expand the series' lore. A recently released trailer during the Xbox Games Showcase not only revealed new gameplay and story details but also confirmed the release date—which isn’t far off.

The main protagonist of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will be Sofia, introduced in A Plague Tale: Requiem, rather than Amicia, who starred in the previous two installments. The game’s story is set 15 years before the events of the original title, giving us deeper insight into Sofia’s past, including her relationship with her father. The developers have promised that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will shift focus from stealth gameplay to more open combat encounters with enemies. As a result, the gameplay trailer showcases a more advanced combat system and hints that Sofia may have already encountered Makula prior to the events of the second game. Asobo Studios also revealed additional details about the game. In particular, they confirmed that the game will feature a time-switching mechanic between different historical eras—medieval times, where players control Sofia, and the era of the Minoan civilization, where, apparently, players will experience the memories of another character, possibly linked to Makula. Furthermore, the developers shared that the Minotaur Island in the game will serve as a mini sandbox, where Sofia can uncover secrets, explore ancient labyrinths, and conduct research. Perhaps most importantly, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is set to release on August 27 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
