Firefly Studios Announced New Stronghold Video Game—a Full Reveal Planned for Later This Week

Firefly Studios, primarily known for the Stronghold game series, has officially announced that a new game in the franchise is in development. A full look at the game, however, will have to wait, but not for long—the project will be presented this week as part of the PC Gaming Show (June 7).

In a video on his YouTube channel, Firefly Studios head Nick Tannahill teased fans about the setting for the next Stronghold game, mentioning options like Ancient Rome, a post-apocalyptic world, and space. However, judging by the location where the video was filmed, the developers will likely return to the franchise's traditional medieval roots. The latest "new" entry in the series, Stronghold: Warlords, set in East Asia, was released in 2021 to mixed reviews. Subsequently, classic titles in the franchise, Stronghold and Stronghold: Crusader, received Definitive Editions in 2023 and 2025, respectively. Fans hope the new installment will return to its roots and remind players why Firefly Studios remains one of the best developers of real-time strategies.
