Former Dead Space Producer Revealed Why Electronic Arts Won’t Make Fourth Installment
Especially following the release of the Dead Space remake in 2023, and even prior to that, Dead Space 4 remained a point of speculation among fans. In the eyes of players, Isaac Clarke's story deserves a proper conclusion following the events of Dead Space 3 and the Awakening DLC, yet Electronic Arts appears to disagree.
In December of last year, Insider Gaming sources also confirmed that Electronic Arts decided to put the Dead Space franchise “on ice,” and there are no plans to release remakes of previous entries or a new, fourth game in the coming years.
Chuck Beaver, former writer and producer of Dead Space, is also pessimistic about the release of a fourth game in the series. In a recent interview with FRVR, he stated that games like Dead Space are too expensive and fail to generate sufficient profit. Consequently, he noted that it is easier for studios to develop multiplayer products that provide a recurring revenue stream rather than creating narrative-driven, single-player content. You can check out the highlights from his interview below:
“You know, companies now are looking for the next Fortnite. They need something that is a perennial moneymaker… something like a single-player package game with no live-service offering that’s like it’s just a dinosaur fossil of a business model.
Horror games have a bit of a ceiling, you know, and I think the number back in Frank Gibeau’s day was five million units to keep going on Dead Space. I think the number is like 15 million units now, given the cost of things.”
Motive Studio, the team behind the Dead Space remake, is currently working on the Iron Man title, Marvel's Iron Man. Although announced in 2022, the game still lacks a release date, as well as any specific details regarding its plot or gameplay.
It is also known that the studio was working on Project Ragtag, alongside Visceral Games and EA Vancouver; it was a single-player Star Wars project in the spirit of Uncharted and Gaia - an action-adventure title inspired by Assassin's Creed. Unfortunately, both games were canceled.
