Capcom's Onimusha: Way of the Sword Is Still Attached to Release This Year

This year, Capcom released two new titles that became massive hits. And while there were practically no doubts about Resident Evil Requiem, the studio's new IP, Pragmata, came as a real surprise: the game has already sold over 2 million copies and has become one of the best games of the year in terms of quality.

Nonetheless, Capcom has not yet finished with 2026 and even published a related post on social media. Their next project will be Onimusha: Way of the Sword - a long-awaited new game in the franchise, the last installment of which, Dawn of Dreams, was released 20 years ago.

The studio has yet to reveal the release date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, but it was previously mentioned the game will launch this year and will not be postponed to 2027. This was also confirmed by the reliable insider NateTheHate, via his recent post on X, as you can check out below:

“For sure...at any rate, I hope Capcom doesn't wait too much longer to give release info on Onimusha, especially if it's still on track for this year.

It is well on-track for this year.”

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set to become another huge installment of 2026, as it follows the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi, who is fighting against demonic creatures from the beyond world. The game also does not have any connection to previous installments and is positioned as a soft reboot by Capcom. The gameplay of Onimusha: Way of the Sword still reminds of the older Onimusha titles, as it includes a linear adventure with separate open areas, similar to another Capcom franchise - Resident Evil, as well as sword duels and a combat system focused on parries, counterattacks, and instant finishers. The developers also confirmed that the ability to absorb souls will return to the game, but there will also be new mechanics affecting the gameplay.
