Resident Evil Requiem Mod Brings Back the Iconic Merchant

A new mod for Resident Evil Requiem has brought back one of the franchise’s most beloved characters—the mysterious merchant from Resident Evil 4. Instead of standard supply boxes, players can now encounter the infamous trader throughout the game, adding a nostalgic twist to the survival horror experience.

Ever since Capcom first revealed Resident Evil Requiem during Summer Game Fest 2025, fans have been eager to uncover every detail about the next chapter in the series. Speculation quickly spread online, with players analyzing trailers for hidden clues, returning characters, and possible story connections.

Excitement grew even further during The Game Awards 2025, when Capcom confirmed that Leon S. Kennedy would return as a playable protagonist for the first time in 14 years. Following its launch in February, Resident Evil Requiem became the fastest-selling game in franchise history, surpassing 5 million copies sold in just five days.

The Merchant Returns Through a Fan-Made Mod

The merchant’s comeback is made possible through a mod created by fanteeek, which replaces all supply boxes in the game with the iconic trader. The mod, available on NexusMods, recreates several classic elements associated with the character, including his signature “Welcome” voice line, idle animations, and even a nearby fire stand.

The creator has also hinted at future updates that may add more animations and dialogue lines to further expand the experience.

Why Fans Wanted the Merchant Back

When Resident Evil Requiem launched, players noticed that the game’s supply box system felt very similar to the merchant mechanics from Resident Evil 4. Players could exchange points earned from defeating enemies for weapons, upgrades, and other items—leading many to wonder why Capcom didn’t officially bring the merchant back in the first place.

For fans of both the original Resident Evil 4 and its remake, the merchant remains one of the most iconic characters in the series. Known for appearing in unexpected locations throughout the campaign, he became a memorable part of the gameplay loop thanks to his mysterious personality and unique dialogue.

Strong Support from the Modding Community

The response to the mod has been overwhelmingly positive, with many players praising the nostalgic atmosphere it adds to the game. The Resident Evil Requiem modding scene has already become highly active, with other projects—including mods that restore Leon’s original Resident Evil 4 character model—also gaining popularity.

As the community continues experimenting with creative additions, Capcom is reportedly preparing future story expansions for Resident Evil Requiem, ensuring that interest in the game remains high well beyond launch.
