Arcadia Cafe Brings Slice-of-Life Horror from Early 2000s Ukraine to Steam

Ukrainian studio Judas Brothers has launched its new title Arcadia Cafe on Steam, offering a unique take on psychological horror set in early 2000s Ukraine.

The game captures a familiar atmosphere for many: a small, unsettling café where locals feel at home, but outsiders may sense something is off. As described by the developers, it reflects a place that feels both ordinary and quietly threatening at the same time.

At the center of the story is Alina, a young woman working at the café. What begins as a routine job slowly spirals into something far more disturbing. After each shift, she makes her way home along Odesa’s Health Route, where she encounters increasingly strange and unsettling situations that gradually build into a deeper psychological horror experience.

One of the key developers behind the project is Artur Aleksandrov, a quest designer at GSC Game World, known for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. He revealed that the concept for the game was inspired by an Odesa-based Telegram channel documenting unusual and often eerie encounters along the Health Route.

Rather than focusing on traditional horror elements like monsters or curses, the team chose a different direction. The game explores the idea that fear can exist in everyday life—subtle, persistent, and often unnoticed.

Visually, Arcadia Cafe leans heavily into the aesthetic of the early 2000s. Players will recognize details such as Soviet-era apartments with consoles by the TV, neon-lit cafés surrounded by panel buildings, and nostalgic street vending machines like “Mister Twister.” The world is further enriched with stylized fictional products, including “Chornobaivske” beer and “Cohve 3-in-1” coffee sticks. The game also features full Ukrainian localization.

Odesa’s connection to the gaming industry continues to grow. Actor Hryhorii Baklanov, known for his role in Catch Kaidash, previously contributed voice work for 23 characters in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, released in fall 2024.
