Movie Adaptation of Legend of Zelda Has Wrapped Filming

Back in November 2023, Nintendo and Sony Pictures announced that the fan-favorite gaming franchise, Legend of Zelda, will receive a movie adaptation directed by Wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes). Almost three years since then, the movie has finally wrapped filming ahead of next year’s release.

As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, with reference to the president of Sony Pictures Motion Group, Sanford Panitch, as you can check out his words below:

“We just wrapped production on Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda — based, perhaps, on the most beloved gaming franchise of all time that sold over 180 million copies in four decades.

It has been produced by the creator himself, Miyamoto, along with Avi Arad, and it’s directed by Wes Ball, whose most recent Planet of the Apes movie was a box office hit.”

So far, the cast of the movie only includes Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda. The first look at the characters was shared by Nintendo back in November 2025. As the shooting process is finished, The Legend of Zelda is now going into post-production.

Another Nintendo adaptation, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, is now available in cinemas, with around $630,000,000 in box office worldwide. It features Brie Larson (Rosalina), Virginia Dare Jelenic (Yellow Luma), Benny Safdie (Bowser Jr.), Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamer), Chris Pratt (Mario), Charlie Day (Luigi), Donald Glover (Yoshi), and more.

As for The Legend of Zelda video games, recent rumors suggest Ocarina of Time, originally released back in 1998, will receive a remake and be released on Nintendo Switch 2 this year. Also, according to Nick Baker, the next game series title might use a concept to switch between realities and dimensions similar to Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

The Legend of Zelda movie will premiere on May 7, 2027.
