Protagonist of a Canceled Rockstar Games Title Found in GTA 5’s Source Code

Back in 2009, Rockstar Games announced their new IP titled Agent. It was a stealth action title set in the 1970s during the Cold War, which was in development for PlayStation 3. Nine years since then, the game was cancelled, and still, we don’t know much about the project.

Some of the concept art and screenshots from the game’s early drafts were leaked, but Rockstar Games hasn’t really given any comments on Agent. But there is a surprising connection, which has been discovered by the fans in Grand Theft Auto V's source code. As revealed on GTAForums by user XanaBax, the protagonist of Agent appears in GTA 5 source code: while his name is not mentioned, we see that he is called Player, and his appearance looks similar to what the character looked like in the game’s setting. “1st and 2nd character models are GTA 5 NPCs (s_m_m_fiboffice_01 and a_f_y_tourist_01)

4th one is TBoGT model (f_y_asianclub_01)

While the 3rd one... could actually be Agent's protagonist since: a) the main node in the hierarchy is called "player"

b) the same model (with different textures) can be seen on some images from a former environment artist's portfolio from 2011.

c) some parts of the model are taken from/edited versions of Niko Bellic. The head has more or less the same UV map (excluding the hairline), the boots are default Niko boots and the pants are edited Niko's cargo pants (UVs are slightly different too)

d) the model is within "Jimmy" (the codename of Agent) folder and hasn't appeared in any GTA game”

This leak potentially indicates that the protagonist of Agent was set to appear in Grand Theft Auto V at some point, but it’s just speculation for now. Unfortunately, we are unlikely to know how developed Agent was planned to be and their further plans to develop the franchise, but it’s definitely an intriguing point between the game and Grand Theft Auto V lore.
