Starship Troopers Extermination Patch 1.10: Marauder Mechs And Ambush Overhauls Arrives
Developer Offworld has deployed Patch 1.10 for the 16-player cooperative shooter Starship Troopers: Extermination. This update introduces the Marauder M-11E Babar, a pilotable walking tank designed to provide heavy fire support against Arachnid swarms.
The vehicle carries a rotary cannon alongside an auto-howitzer and twin shoulder-mounted smoothbore cannons for long-range engagement. Pilots must manage a restricted ammunition supply while navigating the machine's slow movement speeds. These movement limitations leave the mech susceptible to being swarmed by enemies if the pilot operates without a supporting squad of Troopers. Currently, players can only access the Babar through a randomly occurring mutator during matches. Offworld stated that players will have different ways to earn the mech in future updates.
I think the Marauder M-11E Babar offers the mechanical variety needed to distinguish this shooter from its peers. The addition of this unit changes the dynamic of the tower defense phases by allowing one player to provide a mobile anchor for the defensive line.

The newest patch expands the game’s arsenal with the TW-7 Liberator, a high-powered revolver intended for Trooper use. This sidearm provides significant stopping power at short ranges for players who find their primary weapons empty during a bug assault. Conflict moves to a new environment on the planet Valaka. This map, titled Hope’s Retreat, features the architectural remains of a Federation settlement. The location includes a dedicated base building zone and a set of new missions specifically designed for this terrain. Players coordinate the placement of electrified fences, bunkers, and watchtowers within this zone to prepare for final extraction phases. These construction efforts utilize resources collected during the initial stages of a mission. Offworld adjusted the durability of Arachnid bug holes across all maps to respond differently to various damage types. Fire and napalm now cause significant damage to these spawn points. Demolition charges and explosive ordinances also see increased effectiveness when used to collapse the tunnels, rewarding teams that bring specialized gear.
Arachnid AI behavior has been altered to facilitate coordinated ambushes against players. The system now avoids sending small numbers of bugs at individual players in a trickle effect. Instead, the AI gathers bugs into tightly packed waves to strike isolated targets with sudden force. Offworld noted that these ambushes function as a foundational change to increase the standard difficulty of typical matches.
I see the new ambush tactics as a vital step toward increasing Starship Troopers: Extermination 's baseline difficulty. This shift forces players to remain in close formation during mission objectives. Tactical fighter airstrikes received logic updates to prioritize larger Arachnid targets like Tigers or Grenadiers. The developers adjusted the targeting parameters to reduce the frequency of accidental friendly fire incidents involving human players, making the strikes more reliable during intense firefights.
"the start of major steps we are taking to increase the baseline difficulty in a typical match" — Offworld
"Troopers are getting pressured in a variety of ways throughout the match."

Class and weapon balance tweaks accompany the content additions to refine the cooperative experience. Specific adjustments were made to ensure that each role remains viable against the more aggressive AI tactics. The 16-player cooperative structure remains the primary focus of the experience as players work together in real-time to build complex structures. Combat results in large piles of deceased Arachnids that accumulate as players defend their positions in rapid succession. The update also addresses various technical issues and bugs identified in previous versions of the software.
These changes follow a series of features including airstrikes similar to those found in Helldivers 2. The release of this update coincides with the launch of Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War, expanding the options for fans of the franchise. Earlier iterations of the game included a single-player mode that faced criticism for being technically uneven, but the current focus on multiplayer updates continues to build on the game's distinct tower defense
