Dreamhaven Announces Multiplayer Survival Shooter The Legend of California
Publisher Dreamhaven and independent studio Kintsugiyama, led by Jeff Kaplan, the co-creator of Overwatch, have officially revealed a new multiplayer survival shooter titled The Legend of California.
The game is set on a mythical version of California during the Gold Rush era, blending historical inspiration with fictional elements. Alongside the announcement, the developers released a trailer showcasing the first glimpses of gameplay.
Survival in a Wild Frontier
In The Legend of California, players will venture into a large open world, where survival depends on exploration and resource management. Gameplay revolves around collecting materials, crafting gear, building structures, hunting wildlife, and overcoming the dangers of the frontier.
The objective is not only to survive but also to build a reputation and ultimately become a legend of California.
A World Inspired by Real California
The game’s environment is handcrafted and modeled after real locations in California, featuring recognizable landscapes and landmarks. At the same time, many locations and points of interest across the map will be procedurally generated, adding variety and replayability to each playthrough.
Skill-Based Combat and Optional PvP
Combat in The Legend of California is designed to reward accuracy and player skill. Players can hunt animals for survival, raid enemy camps for valuable resources, or defend their territory from rivals.
The game will also feature optional PvP encounters, allowing players to challenge others while exploring the frontier.
Building, Exploration, and Co-op Play
Developers promise a dynamic world filled with diverse biomes and extensive building options. Players will be able to construct their own ranch with stables, develop infrastructure, and even build a mine to gather resources.
The game supports both solo play and cooperative multiplayer for up to four players.
Release Plans
According to Jeff Kaplan, public alpha testing for The Legend of California is expected to begin before the end of the month. The game is currently planned to launch in Early Access on Steam and the Epic Games Store sometime in 2026.
